What a battle setting up between these two heavyweights! The BearCats come in as champions of the rebound, crashing the glass at 7th in the country in total rebounding. Shooting only 41% from the floor, this is a major category for Cinny to put in the win column. As you well know, Cinny is led by All American canidate Sean Kilpatrick. The man is a one man wrecking crew averaging 18ppg, and with a 6'4" frame, can bang inside and out. The BearCats have a nice trio starting with Kilpatrick at 18ppg, followed by 13ppg, and 11ppg. Major knock on the boys from Cinny is that they can't shoot FT's. The team is shooting at a awful clip of 65% for the charity stripe. In a close game, this can burn you. I will give credit Cinny though, they are road warriors, going 5-2 away from the Queen City. Wanna talk about playing up to competion? Cincinnati boasts a record of 14-6 against teams with winning records. Lets get in some Husky talk here.....Nothing really jumps out about this team that makes you wanna lay the wood at first glance, but let get inside the numbers here. Balance!!!! Top 4 scorers for the kids from Storrs, lead by top player Shabazz Napier at 16, followed by 15, 11, 11. You have to love that all these kids can step up at anytime and take the workload over. Both Napier and Boatright are hitting 38% from 3, which should open up the floor. A huge state, compared to Cinny, is that Uconn can wrap games up from the line. The top 5 players on Uconn in terms of minutes played shoot 81,76,78,71, and 89% from the line, and overall 74% as a team. Wow! Uconn also can put teams away at home, running an 11-2 overall record in the state of Connecticut. Uconn has a recent win over powerhouse Syracuse on the 13th, showing they can hang with the big boys. No doubt this game will come down to the wire here. As impressive as the BearCats are on the road, I just think that the balance of Uconn, and home crowd, will be too much for Cinny to overcome. Look for Uconn to hold the lead late here, and close out from the FT line.

PICK.....UConn +1

Welcome to Saturday in the Big East!

I am spotting an inconsistant mismatch here, and lets go to the tale of the tape here. The Friars have a February record of 4-1, with the most recent outing be a washout up in Syracuse. This Providence team is led by Bryce Cotton at 20ppg, followed by Batts 15ppg, Henton 13.5, and Council 10ppg. That is really nice balance heading into a road game, but lets not kid ourselves here, Cotton is engine that revs up the Friars. The Friars can crash glass as well landing in the top 65 nationally, Batts and Henton can really get after it. Considering Providence is not a really good shooting team, 2nd and 3rd chances are going to make the difference here. The Friars are not road warriors by any means, going 3-6 on the road, and only being winning teams 7 of 16 times. In a close game, I worry about the Friars ability to close out for the line shooting 69% as a team overall. But to be fair, both Cotton and Henton shoot 80% from the stripe. Now lets get to the Jersey Boys.....Looking at the stats nothing really jumps out at you. Since beating the basement boys of USF by 3 on Jan 17th, Rutgers has lost 8 of 9 since. Only score a 2pt win over Seton Hall. Rutgers is lead by Eli Carter at 15ppg, and Myles Mack at 13.6ppg, and not much else. Here's the problem Eli Carter is listed as out for the year with a leg injury! Who can they count on?

Another stat that I think is really going to prove true is overall Big East performance by both teams. Looking at the raw numbers overall, Providence is scoring at a 68ppg clip and Rutgers overall at 66ppg. But take out the early season below avg comp on both teams. Providence is still scoring at 67ppg in BE play, while Rutgers is paltry 60ppg in the BE. Even though we brought up that the Friars dont shoot well from the line, this game is not going to need a late closeout with a short line. We just need the win here. This Vegas line is off, and we will exploit this.

Pick......Providence Friars -1

Welcome to Big East Sunday!

Taking our focus to South Bend, Indiana today, with a complete matchup of opposite teams here. Cincinnati is nasty team, playing defense and crashing glass, vs, Notre Dame more built on shooting and finesse. Last time we saw the Bearcats they dropped a tough OT loss in Hartford to Uconn. Notre Dame had a solid win over Pitt by close to double digits.
Now lets get inside the numbers on these teams.....Cincinnati is a tough team, and Mick Cronin can sense the urgency. The Bearcats are 2-4 in the month of February, and really need to right the ship. Sean Kilpatrick is really going to need to have a solid game here on the road to keep the Cincy boys in the game. After the huge performance on the glass in Hartford this past Thursday, the Bearcats now boast a top 5 rebounding team. Which is a key stat on keeping the ball alive, and getting 2nd and 3rd chances. Uconn was the worst rebounding team in the BE, and Cincy exploited that in everyway. But some how managed to take a loss. Notre Dame is a decent team rebounding, but the key stat here is 48%! Yes 48% FG% from the floor. This ND team shoots it well. This ND team is also one of the top Assist teams in the nation as well. Simple logic says that if you make shots, you dont have to rebound. This may limit the dominant sweeping of the glass by Cincinnati. Also ND shoots a clip of 38% from 3! Rewind to OT in Hartford the other night, Shabazz Napier was raining 3's when it counted. ND is a winner of 4 of 6 in BE play, and Cincy has taken a defeat in 4 of 5. Look for Cooley(14ppg and 11rpg), Grant and Atkins(13ppg, and 12ppg) to control the tempo here, and ND strong bench play has 4 more players averaging 7 or more points.

As long as the refs call a clean game, there is a clear value here with the Fighting Irish. Let's lay the short line here and go with the home team.

Pick.......Notre Dame-3

Once again we head to Big East Monday!!!!

This ladies and gentlemen on its face looks like a mismatch, and let's get right into the true numbers.

Lets take a look at the Cats from the Main Line in Philadelphia first. Fresh off a knockdown drag out bout vs Marquette, that saw Nova win its 9th Big East game of the year, they take on lowly Seton Hall. Nova is hanging right on the bubble of the NCAA's, and really need this win. Nova are winners of 5 of 6 and playing some really good ball at this time. They have beaten the HeavyWeights of the BE in Cuse, L'ville, Uconn, and Marquette. Villanova is a solid team overall, nothing spectacular when you just glance. Decent scoring team, average rebounding team, dont shoot the lights out, but have real depth with 5 guys scoring 9 or more points. The team is lead by JayVaughn Pinkston at 12ppg and 5rpg, and team leader in mins Ryan Arcidiacono. The Cats shoot at a decent clip of 35% from 3, and a solid charity stripe number of 71% as a team. Nova is scoring at 68ppg.

Now lets glance at the Pirates from Seton Hall...The Pirates come in losers of 13 of 14, and 9 straight in the Big East. Averaging a loss margin against BE teams at 12pts/game. This Seton Hall team has won only 2 BE games all year, and they were against basement teams of Depaul and USF, not exactly impressive by any means. Seton Hall doesnt do much well, lower scoring team, and below average on the glass. However they do have some solid individual performers like 6' 6" Fuquan Edwin at 17ppg and 6rpg, and solid guard Aaron Cosby. But not really much else to chew on. They average 66ppg overall on the season.

Tale of the tape here now...

Although Nova is 9-6 overall in the BE, they are only 3-4 on the road. At home vs Big East play Seton Hall is only scoring 58pts/gm. On the flipside, Nova's road show is scoring at 66ppg clip in the BE. Thats value! Nova is also 6-1 when playing a losing team, and Seton Hall is only 1-11 in games with teams who have 15+wins. The game is being played on short rest for both teams, so there is no real advantage. But, Nova is 3-1 on short 1 day rest, while the Hall is 1-2. Seton Hall is 2-13 in the BE, and playing for nothing here. The Prudential Center is not much of a home court advantage for the Pirates, and Nova is fighting for its NCAA lives. There will not be a letdown in this one. Take Nova to get its 10th BE win of the year and cover the short line here.

Tough loss on Nova as they fail to hold a final minute 4pt lead. We will not have a college play tomorrow, but check back on Wednesday for a nice schedule of games to see if we can find some value.
